Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Description: TGTG is seeking an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Scientist to provide services in the development of new and enhancement of existing capabilities for information technology systems and applications for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Data Scientist will expand the data science and AI capabilities of the customer’s analytics platform. The individual in this position will have broad exposure to a wide variety of data analytics, machine learning, and AI techniques.



Responsibilities:
 
  • Must be able to work with program and project leaders to define and create the architectural depictions and documents, ensuring logical flow, and address all issues
  • Experience in using Python or R language, and data visualization tools such as Power BI.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and related database technologies. Ability to read, write, maintain, and tune complex SQL queries.
  • Must be able to design and discuss system strategies for platform, applications and networks.
  • Provide in-depth analyses and insights for strategic and organizational initiatives, while maintaining analytics and AI roadmap to prioritize initiatives, communicate timelines, and ensure successful, timely completion of projects.
  • Provide guidance and support in the development of information value chain analysis, data quality metrics, and metadata capture.
  • Evaluate alternatives for integrating various data sources with enterprise relational models and strategies for transactional and analytical systems to effectively share data.
  • Develop and document analytical models using statistical analysis, data mining, and AI techniques to create high-level data architecture diagrams that document system and data flows.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify impactful organizational problems and translate them into structured analyses, measurable insights, and reports and dashboards.
  • Assist with the development and deployment of analytical and AI tools, and develop custom models to observe progress, uncover insights in the data, and automate analyses.
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of algorithm-based and AI-driven feature development: researching and designing solutions, running tests with clients, performing deep analyses to understand results, implementing scalable solutions in production environments, and monitoring platform-wide impact.
  • Collaborate with team members, both to build out specific projects and to continuously teach and learn new technology and techniques.
  • Develop/maintain a Data Science Website, analytical models, new applications for business process automation, and provide maintenance and sustainment of all and any developed products deployed into production.
  • Extend conceptual models with business rules to develop logical data models.
  • Extensive understanding of computer and data systems.
  • Experience implementing complex ETL and data extraction projects from scratch.
  • Familiarity with Azure tools and experience with Data Lake.
  • Collaborate with team members to plan, develop, test, and implement reporting solutions in Power BI.
  • Ability to debug, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues.
  • Build production-grade models on large-scale datasets by utilizing sophisticated statistical modeling, machine learning, AI techniques, or data mining techniques.
  • Use machine learning and AI techniques, visualizations, statistical analysis, etc., to gain insight into various data sets – some of which are readily available and some of which you create and curate yourself.
  • Familiarity in applying AI/ML libraries to analyze data and build statistical models to solve specific customer problems.
  • Communicate findings and solutions clearly to a variety of audiences. Create dashboards that tell a story and be able to communicate the story to the government.
  • Open to learning new technology as the data science and AI strategy may evolve. Actively seek out a broad understanding of our customer’s technology platform and products and align design efforts with that context.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision but high accountability.
 
Required Skills & Experience
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline is required. 
  • Minimum 5 years or more of progressive work experience in Data Science.
  • Must have experience with proposing new solutions to problems
  • Must be able to work and analyze both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL, Python, or any programming language
  • Experience in data modeling, analytics, integration, and data visualization
  • Experience in developing machine learning algorithm and deploying in Microsoft Azure Cloud services
  • Experience with AI frameworks and libraries such as OpenAI, AI Foundry, and AI Agent Service.
  • Knowledge of natural language processing (NLP) techniques and tools.
  • Familiarity with predictive modeling and prescriptive analytics.
  • Experience integrating ML and AI solutions within larger systems and workflows.
  • Proven track record of developing and deploying models in production.
  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist with expertise in machine learning and AI techniques.
  • Experience with Azure AI frameworks and libraries such as OpenAI, LLMs, and AI Agent Service.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or R.
  • Proficiency in SQL and ability to manage complex queries and ETL processes.
  • Experience with Azure tools and services for deploying AI solutions.
  • Solid understanding of data architecture, data wrangling, and data pipeline development.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills, including the ability to communicate with brevity and clarity to government clients and develop work products that meet professional quality standards with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to schedule, organize, and facilitate executive-level virtual meetings and summarize outcomes.
  • Ability to self-organize, balance workload, complete tasks on time (without reminders), proactively seek out assignments, and offer improvements to client delivery.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of the Dynamics 365 (D365) CRM solution from the business / functional perspective
  • Prior experience with VA / US Government Agencies
  • Ability to adapt well to a changing and dynamic client environment and function independently
  • Ability to work nights and weekends (on occasion if needed)
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Understanding of the Dynamics 365 (D365) CRM solution from the business / functional perspective
Formal Education:
  • Bachelor of Science degree required
Years of Professional Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience
